Prop firm rules compared: Apex vs Topstep vs MyFundedFutures vs TakeProfitTrader

Updated August 28, 2026 · 1 min read

Every futures prop firm sells the same thing — a funded account after you pass an evaluation — but the rules that decide whether you pass, and whether you get paid, differ in ways that matter. Here's how the four biggest compare.

Prop firms change specs, targets, and payout terms constantly, and most of these numbers vary by account size and by promotion. This table is an as-of-August-2026 orientation, not a substitute for reading each firm's current rules for your exact account.

Payout mechanics are the terms firms adjust most often — verify before you build a plan around a payout date.

Which rule fails you

  • Apex — if you bought an intraday account, the trailing threshold moves with your unrealized P&L, so a trade that spikes and comes back quietly shrinks your room. If you bought an EOD account, it's the $1,000 daily loss limit instead. → Apex Trader Funding rules, explained
  • Topstep — the end-of-day trailing drawdown is gentler, but the $1,000 daily loss limit and the 2 minimum trading days on the eval catch impatient traders. The 50% consistency rule also applies to the eval, not just payouts.
  • TakeProfitTrader — EOD trailing with no eval daily loss limit, but a 3 trading day minimum you can't rush.
  • All of them, eventually — the consistency rule on payouts. One big day and your next withdrawal needs multiples of it in total profit first. → The consistency rule, explained

The concept that underpins most of this is the trailing drawdown itself: → Trailing drawdown, explained
